Project Description

The site consisted of an original eighteenth-century farmhouse located in an ‘area of special streetscape character’ in Whiteabbey just outside Belfast. The client wanted to maximise the value of the site but the planning authority would not allow demolition of the existing house and were initially against further development of the site. However, PAD Architects achieved planning approval for two additional substantial detached houses by creating a courtyard development, utilising the layout of the existing outhouses, yard and stable block. The original handsome house has been retained and was fully refurbishment.
